In October 2014 the Good Hope Medical Foundation issued a challenge grant of $100,000 to the MLK Community Health Foundation in support of the planning and first-stage pilot of the Advanced Care Program initiative.

The challenge was matched by the UCLA Health System and the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. The combined awards launch the hospital's collaborative work with both community health clinics and the University of California to find innovative ways to attract and retain physicians who can best serve the needs of South Los Angeles residents.
